About the Programs

Program Specifics

Ultimately, a child’s sporting experience starts and ends with the coach! They set the tone for everything that happens. The Coaching to Make a Positive Difference training program is an extraordinarily unique volunteer coaches' training program that focuses on the "other side" of coaching. We steer away from the X' &O''s, skills & drills and game strategy to a more educatinonal approach for coaches – who most likely have had little to no training on how to effectively interact with the children they are coaching. By examining, developing, and redefining coaching, this new perspective will work to enhance the overall experience for everyone involved: kids, parents, coaches and organizations.

In order to constantly strengthen self-esteem while challenging kids at the same time, key techniques must be used to create an inclusive experience– making every practice and game enjoyable! Regardless of how well a coach/ knows his/her sport, this time and effort needs to be made into the teaching side of coaching in order to become a more successful and complete coach, and ultimately making a positive difference for our kids..

Why Coaches Need Training

Most coaches have never taken a child development class in their life. Their hearts are in the right place, but their knowledge of effectively working with a group of children is limited. The only job in this country that does not require training, typically, is coaching. This is especially true at the volunteer level. That has to change, and organizations have to execute that change. Coaches need to better understand children from a developmental and psychological perspective, just as a teacher is educated to do so. Having an effectively trained staff of coaches creates a better sporting experience for everyone involved.

Non-trained coaches typically look to their won-loss record and focus only on results. Effective coaches develop processes and build supportive and successful programs. Trained coaches are more put in a better position to have an extraordinary season, on many levels, with a coach who understands the concept of a program and our kids overall sporting experience.

About the Founder

Bill Bommarito’s zest for life starts with his love for sports and his passion for teaching. Beginning his career as a high school teacher and coach, Bill has since spent the last 20+ years coaching, officiating, administrating, writing and developing educational training programs for coaches and parents throughout St. Louis and the United States. As a coach for his daughters’ youth teams, Bill quickly discovered the difference between what he did as a professional teacher and coach and what he saw at the youth level. He found an enormous need for more specialized training around being a better and more effective coach to enhance the overall experience. As a result Bill developed his training program "Coaching to Make a Positive Difference", and has taught over 16,000 coaches.

Bill’s training program has changed people’s approach to coaching and has gotten incredible acclaim with descriptions such as "engaging", "informative", "entertaining", "awesome", "life changing". Others proclaim, “can’t wait for the season to begin”, “I will be a better parent because of this training”. Now those are some strong words for a training program that Bill knows is changing lives and making a positive difference in the life of a child…one coach at a time.
